Reunion

I wasn't sure what to expect as we entered the restaurant last Saturday for the 50th anniversary dinner reunion of my high school class. Brooklyn Tech was a ‘commuter’ school with students coming from all over the City. So, interaction was limited to school and after-school activities. You didn't have a lot of friends among your classmates. But there were four of us - Queens boys - who hung out together -- Mark, Frank, Bill and me. I knew that we'd all be at the dinner. I thought that if I recognized one of the group -- which I was confident I might -- the rest would fall into place. It didn't take long. As I walked up the stairs to the dining room, I heard a voice "Benjie?" It was Bill. The rest was easy. And a Gotham take on the evening. Fellow Gothamite Al D'Elia was there. No, we didn't know each other back then. And we were speaking to another Alum who was in the music business and Flo made the connection to Gothamite Judy Mauer. Finally, during the brief remarks, the current Principal of Tech invited us to attend the 100th anniversary. We all gasped - happy to have made it to our 50th. He clarified that he meant the 100th anniversary of Tech -- which is in about five years.

Glad you enjoyed.
Martin Van Buren Class of '73 has held a reunion without fail every five years and many of us gather almost without fail at a summer BBQ hosted annually by a classmate and good friend. Some there I go back to grade school or Junior High (they call it Middle School these days.). I think I keep up in one fashion or another with close to 100 fellow "Veebees" and one teacher. So sometimes at the reunion I focus on those I do not see much at all or perhaps lost connections with (and hopefully keep on with after each).
