An Accident

Recently, I was again reminded of the vagaries of life. Those chance occurrences that could make all the difference.
We were driving to Washington, D.C. and were about 30 minutes away on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway when traffic suddenly came to a complete stop. Within minutes, at least 10 emergency vehicles passed us. The traffic app told us that there was a major accident less that a tenth of a mile ahead of us. It had happened moments before.
We waited and, eventually backed up, turned around and headed northbound in the southbound lanes, off an entrance ramp, and circumvented the accident.
A few moments. That cup of coffee that we waited for at the last stop. Slowing down for a few minutes along the way. Not passing that other car. So many things that made us a few moments behind rather than a tenth of a mile ahead.

I can never stop thinking about those fortunate few who were late for work on 9/11!

Its amazing, wonderful and sometimes upsetting the difference a few moments can make. Thanks for reminding us of the vagaries of this mortal coil. #yolo

Very deep and so true. I drive quite a bit for my work and witness much aftermath of accidents on a daily basis. I wonder about the timing often.

Thank heaven, Ben, that you & Flo were not part of the accident. Lately I am more worried than ever about accidents because of so many drivers not paying attention. If there have to be "Text Stop" signs, you know it is a serious issue. Last week I watched as a car ahead of me drove towards a barrier but got back on the road. I got past the car as soon as possible. Every time I reach my destination I am grateful. Thank you for your blog.

I wonder if those in the accident thought the same "what if"---

Glad you are Flo are safe. xoxo
