Good morning! A little late today. In the midst of an office move that is having some bumps, so yesterday I went to the movies. It has been a long time since I was so moved by a film. The film was Florence Foster Jenkins with Meryl Streep, Hugh Grant (perhaps the best acting he has ever done) and many other talented actors. It certainly wasn't perfect but I found it quite affecting, that it was based on a true story made it even more wonderful.

It brought up deep questions for me.

Carnegie Hall program

Do we encourage people who have a passion for something, even though we may not see their talent for that same thing? People were laughing at parts I didn't find humorous at all. If someone loves doing something, why should they be stopped from doing it? Do you risk hurting them to keep them from greater humiliation?

We NEVER know the whole of someone's history, despite what we read in the papers or on the internet.

I'm trying not to give too much away, but I'm afraid I have.

Go see the film and let me know what you think. The blog will still be here. I'll keep checking.

Also, take the afternoon off, it can really increase your productivity.

Streep is an ongoing wonder and treasure

I discovered FFJ years ago and have recordings. An incredible story and very sad through our eyes but not through hers. She honestly believed in herself and had the wherewithal to carry through on her belief to benefit others. I was fortunate enough to have attended a preview showing at the 92nd Street Y of the film and interview of both Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant. Fascinating. In spite of the circumstances, the acting and story is so good that I highly recommend to others that a must see. Certainly an Academy Award performance by MS.

There are plenty of celebrated musical performers -- some perhaps in the R&RHoF -- who I equate in talent with FFJ. We each judge on our own.
