Will You Marry Me?

A close friend of our family got engaged Friday afternoon. How did we find out? Within minutes of her engagement, pictures of her hand wearing her new ring went up on Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook etc. Moments later, as I sat at my desk with a client, my phone started exploding with text messages from my family and other close friends telling me that Beth was engaged.

The best part about the social media explosion, however, was that I was able to see the video of it happening. The couple met at Driftwood Day Camp and so, the soon to be groom Josh, decided to propose at camp. The camp posted the video on its Facebook page which gave me the opportunity to see Josh sing to her in front of the whole camp during “Driftwood Idol,”  Bruno Mars’ version of “Will You Marry Me,”   and, ultimately surprise her by dropping down to one knee and producing an engagement ring.  I admit the video brought tears to my eyes.

When I got engaged, we had to call everyone we knew to let them know. Now, with social media, everyone knows and can share in major life events within moments of them happening.  One of the better aspects of the social media explosion.

Congrats to Beth and Josh!!!!

Nice; a couple proposed on the dinner clipper train we rode & dined on Sat. eve. He even got on his knees. Someone ought to do a blog about when and how long couple wait to propose (after meeting) and where the event happened.

There is an ad now where a former boyfriend calls his former girlfriend and has her listen in as he proposes to his new fiancee.

What a nice FB story! Social Media is wonderful for announcing changes in "status"

I love when people share happy news on social media! When my niece's now husband proposed at a family Thanksgiving get together I missed, her brother posted a video on FaceBook. It was wonderful to be able to see it happening instead of just hearing about it.

I will be the downer here - Sometimes the friends who are there post the happy occasion so fast that the young couple (or their parents) don't even have a chance to call the aunts and uncles. Same with e-blasts - One of my nieces took the time to text me an hour or so after having her baby to share the news - luckily I had not checked my email first, because her father had already sent out the email. If the couple shares it fine all others should mind their own business and not be the town crier unless asked to do so after those who's good news it is have had a chance to make the calls that they want to make
