Drying

Renovations of the bathrooms in our offices were recently completed. In addition to the clean new look,  I noticed the new high powered hand dryer and the new paper towel dispenser which dispensed smaller sheets than I remembered.
I began to take notice and observed many more high powered hand dryers in public restrooms. Some were side-by-side paper towel dispensers -- offering hybrid drying options -- while some dryers were solo (leaving toilet paper as the only traditionally absorbent alternative).
I am no expert on the carbon footprint of dryers as compared to the environmental impact of paper towel waste; however, I sense a movement away from paper. I am good with that.

I think of the carbon footprint too when I use the dryer

I don't know about the carbon footprint; but prefer the high powered dryers. Paper towels seem to still work better for young children who get frightened by the dryers. I saw one little boy adamantly refuse to get near one last weekend. His Mom just shrugged and told him to do 'jazz hands' until they were dry. :)

It sounds silly but I feel like you never get your hands completely dry with paper towels unless you do it multiple times. I always prefer the high-powered hand dryer- especially if I'm headed into a meeting or networking event because the first thing I do when I meet someone is shake their hand and the last thing I want them to feel is my damp hands!

I always prefer paper towels as that is the most sanitary way to handle a bathroom visit especially if you have to handle faucets or doors after having washed your hands. Luckily, the ladies room in Ben's building has automatic faucets and dispensers but the door still needs to be open if you want to leave - not enough ladies room traffic to wait for someone else to enter or leave :)

There are times a towel becomes useful and neater. Think a hot day and need to cool one's face. I prefer both remaining available.
