Shake It Off

Reposting a blog from the past with a timeless message. Shake it off. Music heals.

Sometimes life can be so simple.

The other night after a very long day, I was headed home on the 14th St. crosstown bus.

It is a favorite of mine.

All is going well, when 2 stops before “my stop” it starts.

Two guys start in on each other, the shouting escalates, it’s New York, so you know the hostility included the most foul language, the bus driver is saying how she’s calling the Police if they don’t stop and we sit and take it in.

A big guy in the back screams for them to stop because he worked all day and he wants to go home. A cop gets on the bus and eventually we start moving again.

Of course, when I do get home, I am carrying all that negativity with me and it was my turn to make the fruit salad. So I thought, what can I listen to that will rid me of this angst and fill me with joy? Not my self help audio books, not my Oprah/Deepak meditation files…

What’s this on my iPhone? Radio? Why not?

I tried the Disco station. Naahh, not quite right.

Then, I saw it: Pop. Yes, iTunes Pop radio saved me that night.

I was listening to Pitbull, Sia, Bruno Mars and dancing all around the kitchen.

I have to say, my real savior was Taylor Swift and Shake It Off.

She is my new hero.

It just worked. I changed from downtrodden and hopeless to Uplifted and Joyous.

Try Taylor (http://youtu.be/nfWlot6h_JM) or something else or just get up and move. It makes an amazing difference.

Players gonna Play.

Haters gonna hate.

Shake it off.

PS – Corey Bearak can give you some great music vids to move to…

Yes, after years of classic rock, alternative, metal & hip-hop, I nowadays find myself turning to 80s pop: adult contemporary :(

I start my mornings with a playlist that includes Happy, Call Me Maybe, Fireworks and others like Don't Worry Be Happy. So it starts my day in joy and movement.Think I'll add Shake It Off. What a great suggestion.

Anything country does it! I live in a happy bubble (visitors welcome) and at the entry there is a bucket for negativity so nothing comes in with me.

I love listening to fun music in the morning! Of course, most days I just wake up with it already in my head. Lately, it's been Happy; but that could be from watching Pharrell Williams on The Voice with my husband. :)

A glass of wine would have worked for me in those circumstances too.

Sorry that Taylor just broke up with still another boy friend, but I'm sure she'll shake it off. :)

Love this post! I dance around in my kitchen to my Amazon pop station, while I cook dinner on most nights. It really washes away the stress of the day and puts me into a good mood to have dinner with my family. A nice glass of wine to go with the dancing and the cooking never hurts either. It's nice to know I'm not alone. :)

egads, I have songs for every occasion, from need to get a person well to straight out kick-a-- motivation. Since I am seeing Mr. Kooper this Thursday, why not this great one (which the Mayor should have blasted at his 2014 inauguration with his "It's a New Day" theme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JDcNU4IO8_s&feature=player_embedded or https://youtu.be/NgFy3Q7qmyk
