A website for some Knights

As some know I enjoy maintaining my own website. Credit my son Jonathan who taught his dad enough code and who built some nifty sites (two still running) while in middle school. With a little help from my son who did not like the planned homepage banner and developed a nicer looking one (see pic), I redeveloped the website for a fraternal and charitable organization I am involved with.

The Knights of Pythias a “non-sectarian fraternity, founded in Washington, DC, by Justus H. Rathbone, in 1864, became the first fraternal organization to receive a charter under an act of the Congress of the United States after careful investigation by then-President Abraham Lincoln.” I am involved in a local “lodge” based in Brooklyn with a many members who live in Queens.

The new website went live this month and at the suggestion of Jonathan it incorporates the Pythian colors. Rather than use the old website names – KOPNY.com and KOPNY.org (still waiting for those to point to the new site but that story can be subject of its own blog) – we use a longer URL, http://knightsofpythiasnewyorkgrandlodge.com since I found when people searched for grand lodge or Knights of Pythias, my local lodge website, http://fdrlodge613knightsofpythias.com/, would invariable come up and we'd get the call.

I hope the new name better directs on line searchers.

Longer names that use the organization name is not unusual for me. For the Queens Civic Congress, we used QueensCivicCongress.org and for the Northeast Queens Jewish Community Council, we use NortheastQueensJewish.org.

The new Pythian website – following the recommendations of experts such as our own Gotham webmaster (and Saturday blogger) Mitch Tobol – also is fully optimized for mobile devices.

If you have time time, let me know what you think.

Always get a little nervous about groups of men-only gathering to "do good."
However you and Chuck Schumer are members, so is Anthony Weiner...

Very cool. I love the pictures of people on the front page. But where are you???
