Let’s start with, I hate that word . . .”perfect”. Perfect doesn’t really exist but this weekend for me it did.

My son was bar mitzvahed this weekend. And, the entire weekend was everything that we could have hoped for. Pride in his accomplishments, pleasure in being able to celebrate with our family and friends, and more than one good meal.

If you have been to a bar or bat mitzvah, you know that the mitzvah child gives a speech at the end of which he/she extends thanks to people who are important. Now I’ll tell you a secret if you promise not to share. When my daughter was bat mitzvahed, she was completely fried by the time she needed to write the end of her speech so guess who wrote it for her? No surprise that according to me, she has the greatest parents on the planet.

My son, however, pushed through and wrote his own. His speech ended this way: “Thank you to my parents and my sister for always being my biggest fans.”

Perfect, right?
