Funny how last weekend I “occupied” my outside spaces; one might think the days that followed would offer more of the same; not a chance; it even snowed – really – while I grilled steaks last night to enjoy with the #1 mom in my life. I decided to plan something special today but cannot share it until later. I hope to pull it off. Normally it’d would appear on a certain calendar but that would blow the surprise.
The bedrock of Gotham has always been its tender heart. And this beating heart was brilliantly expressed this past Tuesday at our ZOOMFEST virtual luncheon of Gotham ‘s Health and Longivity group. Gotham founder and master interrupter, Fred Klein, took the (virtual) floor to remind us what Gotham was all about:
It’s 7 years now that Charcoal (our 14 pound hypo allergenic Schnoodle) has resided with us and abided by our wonderful unspoken Bargain.
What do you see when you look in the mirror?
Well most of us don’t take a lot of notice, especially in these work at home times. But every time I log onto a Zoom or WebEx meeting, for a brief few seconds, I see an image of myself, blown up in full color. It actually is a bit startling as this is really how others will see me. But what do you see of yourself? I see more gray hair, maybe this is more distinguished looking or shows I have stood the test of some time period. In reality, I am getting older and hopefully wiser.
A colleague posed a question to me yesterday, looking both to express himself, and to seek connection. “Do you still have that general sense of malaise this week?” I applauded his bravery in allowing himself to exist and explore the generally unexciting place occupying his mind. Without hesitation, I encouraged him not to “fake it”, but to speak openly with clients, colleagues, friends and family. Chances are, they feel it too. Maybe even a new sense of reality that may feel strangely, comfortable?

As we anxiously await the grand opening of the future, I’ve been intrigued by the notion of reimagining what it will look like:
I have been playing around with this blog idea for a few days now. The picture Fred posted on his blog on Friday made me “seal the deal.”
