Let's Go on a Cruise!

It looks like Carnival Cruise lines is in some hot water.  Not only from the lawsuits by angry passengers, but I would wager that their business has got to be bad for some period of time.  I think a lot of people are going to pick vacation choice number 2 instead of a cruise.  The national park service should run a counter-commercial with a couple in a car being attacked by a bear saying "we should have done this last year" as they flash back to their Carnival cruise and going to the bathroom in a bag.

That had to be the worst if, which if nothing else makes us appreciate our toilets.  The good news there is that the ship also was running out of food, so that would make you have to go less often.  I think it would have been a good time for body cleansing and a four day water only fast.

It also occurred to me that in the olden days, before toilets had indoor plumbing, people had to use outhouses. Getting up in the middle of a cold and windy February night to go would require not just shuffling barefoot with eyes half open into your bathroom a few feet away, but a coat and boots and an unheated and dark outhouse. Not as bad as what the passengers on Carnival had to endure, but still fairly unappealing. I would have rather been bloated until morning.

We have gone on a few cruises.  The worst of it so far were some bad shows and a windy deck.  All in all we have really enjoyed them.  If we  go again though we may bring some extra supplies.  Just in case.

We went on just one cruise and it was enough as I was plagued by visions of ice bergs in Caribbean waters

Carnival is a lower end "party" cruise line. There are much nicer, safer cruise alternatives. I have been on several and had a great time.

I've been on several cruises and we have another planned shortly. Plumbing preferred Historical fact: The term "head" refers to "toilet facilities" on a ship where sailors would hang their bottoms off the head of the ship, and do their business directly into the ocean.

I'm not sure that I would all Carnival the lower end of cruise lines. We've been on Carnival many times and on the Triumph exactly a year ago. We always found the crew extremely professional and have heard that they were in this situation. Given our experience, I wouldn't have expected differently.

My husband's favorite vacation has always been a cruise. We even took the grandchildren and their parents on a short cruise to see if we could stand being with them all on a long cruise. Too bad that what happened happened but as they say >>>> happens. The thought that a cruise ship could run out of food is laughable but the rest is not. Cruises will always happen and even those who were on this one will go back...especially since they have a credit.

My husband is a mechanical engineer who worked on the design of equipment for Navy ships. He always says he would never go on a cruise. All the water is in tanks. All the food has to be delivered to the ship and kept frozen. He doesn't think it is a safe environment. I doubt that I am going on a cruise without him.

I've not done a cruise and I suspect it will wait until we can go off season when Shelly leaves the school system. I have had some interest in a rock cruise such one happening next weekend featuring one of my fave rockers, Paul Cotton of Poco. I suspect Fred can testify to his great playing and singing. See http://www.paulcotton.com and select

Although we have been cruising and vacationing for many years we never had a "Carnival tragedy". That will not prevent us from going on more cruises. I don't believe the Carnival management did all they could possibly do to speed up the recovery.
