The Shawn Atom Book Club

One of the duties-pleasures of being Grand Parents is having the kids over for a weekend (while the parents vacation). Recently we were on duty and on the first night my "6 and a 1/4" year old grandson carried a book over to me and asked "Grandpa would you read to me". How could I say no.

It ends up he was lugging the third Harry Potter book which my son Alex had been reading to him. To be honest, I have never read the books or seen the movies, but I dove right in with enthusiasm, attempting to act out all the characters.

Right away he was correcting me that Hermione is pronounced Hermine and so on. Nonetheless, I was soon swept away with the captivating tale and couldn't wait for the next night's reading.

Fred being Fred, I asked him the names of all those that had read Potter to him and, true to the spirit of the book, conjured up the "Shawn Atom Book Club". Members being those that have read Potter to him. When uncle David and cousin Jackson came over the next day I asked them read to him too, thus gaining them entry into our exclusive Club.

Presently there are 8 members.

Life and Book Clubs are good!

Love kids!

I loved reading to my son. Did it almost every night. We read everything from Dr. Suess to Tom Clancy.

Wonderful short story!

I remember reading the first book to my daughter. I got so into the story that-after I put her to sleep-I would read ahead. She called me on it every time.

By the time the second book came out, she was able to read it herself. I was disappointed.

Took off a few hours today and went to visit my granddaughter this afternoon. Not reading to her yet, she is only six weeks old. But we do have out own little singing club.

As a teacher and parent, I know reading to children is a joy. But reading to a grandchild must be an ultimate.Hope my day comes soon. So what do you serve at the Shawn Atom Book Club?

I will have to send this to Marisa and Jonathan but I do prefer they marry a partner before they produce a grandchild.....
