The right amount

Every year, I try to buy just the right amount of firewood for the winter. I go to my vendor's websites, see what's available, and at what price. This year prices are down. Maybe it's a result of more trees having been felled and/or less people are buying.

I take this into account as well as anticipate the expected severity of the winter. The result is that, this year, I've bought from two different vendors (I like to spread the love:) and now have a full face cord.

You can view my first "burn" of the season on my IG account here.

The firewood's arrival is yet another reminder of the season's change along with the turning of leaves, Thanksgiving, and raking the yard.

My stove re-burns the smoke so it's actually cleaner than my oil fired furnace

Love a nice fire when it gets cold out. Little need these days in Fl, but we do have a wood burning fireplace and had it inspected and repaired over the summer, so ready to go, just need some wood...

Checking Yahoo: Firewood costs are driven by location and availability, so prices for a cord of mixed hardwood can range from $50 to more than $100 a cord, depending on location.

We don't have a fireplace. But my next door neighbor does. There's something comforting about the smell of her fireplace when I come home at night after a full work day, in the dark, on a cold day.
