Some Like it Hot, Richie Furay, Shubert Theatre, Broadway, Jack Lemmon, Tony Curtis, Marilyn Monroe

Occasionally, we attend a Broadway show with friends; they choose the show; (on the date of) an earlier group event we ventured instead to the South Orange Performing Arts Center in New Jersey to see Richie Furay. There was no conflict this time and all in our group agreed that everything clicked in Some Like It Hot at the Shubert Theatre. The songs, the music, the book, the individual performances, the scenery, the costumes – all exemplary.

Going in, I did not know what to expect. I saw the movie starring Jack Lemmon, Tony Curtis and Marilyn Monroe numerous times on TV. I do not want to give away the update – perhaps modernized would be a better characterization – plot but it really fit in terms things that predominate in the dialogue of today. 2023 is certainly not 1959.

If you can, do see it.

1959 was a bad year for Yankees and I fear 2023 too for both NY teams :(

Thanks for the review. We try to treat ourselves to one show a year if we can. Always looking for recommendations.

The original was a great movie. I thought about the play but I loved the original movie so much I was hesitant to go to the play. I will definitely consider it.

You really should. Without giving much away you’ll really appreciate it.

I enjoyed the show, too. Lots of talent and energy! I did miss Jack Lemmon, Tony Curtis, and Marllyn!
As Corey notes, the times they are a changin and so is the new Some Like it Hot!
