The Landline

Do you call anyone on their landline phones any longer?

I was calling a friend from my cell phone over the weekend. As I tapped onto her contact information, both her cell number and home number came up. I knew that there was a good chance that she would be home so, for a moment, I was torn as to which phone to call. I ultimately opted to call her cell phone.

We still have a land line phone. Yet I find that people are calling me much more frequently on my cell. In fact, recently it seems that only people who call my landline are my husband and I when we know the other one is home. Do you feel the same?

Happy New Year Gotham to all who celebrate!!

I gave up my landline when I moved. We actually added one in case I needed to fax and as a back up knowing I would be working from home. After three days of non stop wrong numbers and solicitations, I had it turned off. Never looked back. I scan my documents and use email or DocuSign so, rarely if ever do I need a land line.

We opted out of our landline three years ago. Two issues to consider: 1)If you misplace your phone at home while spouse and kids are out, you can't call anyone to call your phone; 2) If there is a four day blackout, the cell transmitter towers stop working.', e.g., no cell phone usage. No internet...landline, short of a shortwave radio, is your only way to reach the outside world in case of an emergency...or call a spouse who may be traveling domestically or abroad.

Reluctantly (on my part) we gave up our landline when recently made some upgrades to our home internet. I still miss it, mostly to call & find my cell phone, but the onslaught of spam & robocalls have stopped. Only one that called us on it was my Mom; she now knows to call only my cell.
