Masks Away ?

Categories

I recently received two boxes of K95 masks that I ordered when the CDC advised to upgrade from cloth masks to K95s. Today the mandate in New York for masks indoors has expired and is not being extended. As we move to the hopeful next phase of COVID, we will all have to get comfortable with new realities — as we did earlier in the pandemic.
And the recently-acquired masks? I plan to wear them…and not only because I just bought them.

I plan to continue to rely on my own research and discernment when making decisions about my health and well-being. No doubt there will be times that warrant a mask. Some things we did early in the pandemic when we had no information have been let go once we learned more. Wearing a mask on the subway might be a keeper.

I have not been wearing a mask much in Florida unless in a crowded indoor environment. It seems common sense would dictate when to wear and not, but the choice should be yours to follow. I am curious if the mask mandate on planes will change anytime soon.

I am in agreement. Plan is to take each situation and evaluate if I am comfortable being without a mask.

Hi Ben. You do realize that the pore size of the filter media of an N95 respirator does not filter out viruses? These type of respirators only protect other people from you, if you have the virus … and that is only very marginally. I try not to judge people, but you need to understand that science does not suggest that wearing these respirators protects the user. My workers and I have worn several different types of respirators over 40 years in the HazMat field. It’s my business to know what protects and what doesn’t, and from what threat. If you have specific questions about this, I would be happy to help.

I will be very happy to lose the masks in my 3 hour classes. Everyone on our college campus is required to be double vaxed and boosted. (Another conversation, I know.) Can’t wait to see my students faces and not have to lecture through a mask!

For now, Im in Ben's camp. Let's see how the transmission rate trends.
