The Delta Variant

Categories
Health

Both Joanne and I have been vaccinated and were becoming comfortable with life as it used to be.  We returned to the gym, dined indoors and enjoyed breathing fresh air without the annoying hindrance of a mask.

And then along came this insidious Delta Variant and our world was thrown akimbo!

What to do?  Who to listen to?

It’s scary.  It’s complicated and it could be life and death.

We are compelled to return to the annoying masks and outdoors become a safer haven.

What next?

PS It is Friday the 13th!

I believe that sooner or later we will all get the virus. I also believe that you have a better chance of getting struck by lightning than getting seriously ill IF you have been vaccinated. That said, I don’t walk around outside in a lightning storm!

It is scary indeed. I am getting physical and occupational therapy at home, and I ask each therapist if she/he has been vaccinated. The last two have had only one of two vaccines so I don't let them come here. One said she has been home with fever and blamed the vaccine. (She had other issues.) Why does a home health care agency allow them to see clients? One supervisor who I spoke with about it boasted that she is not going to be vaccinated because she doesn't have to. Scary indeed. p.s. I fired the agency and hired another.

I too, have returned to masks indoors at the supermarket, the stores, and other largely visited places. I feel its better safe than sorry. Additionally, 2 of my friends came down with a nasty summer cold. One of them, even had a 103 fever. Even tho he tested negative to COVID, we still aren’t convinced it wasn’t yet, another strange mutation. Stay safe and happy Friday the 13th!

99 wasn’t vaxed and he was struck by lightning last night!

People are contracting Covid who have been vaccinated…

I’ve had the virus, been vaccinated and am still cautious and rely on what makes sense - masks indoors in public spaces makes sense to me. Keeping stress levels down is an important way to support a healthy immune system so doing things that create peace of mind make sense like going with your gut and following the science and the data.

I believe that we are living the new normal. After Delta there will be another one. If people don’t get vaccinated it will continue to mutate - that’s it’s job. Our approach to living in this world has changed and will never be the same.

I am back to wearing inside in public places. It is a challenge but one we are all used to unfortunetly.

Wear a mask, wash your hands. Same as ever. Vaccinated or not. And make gratitude lists. We are so very fortunate to alive today on this glorious planet.

My M.D. told me yesterday to keep taking Vitamin D3 no matter what. I also take the scientifically researched natural virus-protection protocols recommended by NY Health members Dr. Richard Carlton and Sylvie Beljanski’s FREE online book from Maison Beljanski, How to Prevent Covid 19 and Anything Else that May Come Your Way”.

Scary to feel the pressure to be ultra careful. Masks indoors yes! Kelly's and Shelley's tips are good.

I guess after reading up, I think that the purpose of the vaccines was to prevent hospitalization and death, and so far that remains true and they have been effective. So, for those who are vaccinated delta may cause more breakthrough cases, but ultimately the numbers show that people are not being hospitalized or dying if they’ve been vaccinated. This goes as well, for those who have had Covid and whose antibodies/immunity are often higher than those who have received vaccines. So between those two groups, many people - a majority - are covered. Those who have not gotten Covid or been vaccinated will probably get Delta. Other strains may mutate, but like the common cold (also a Covid virus) it will be something that becomes more transmissible and less virulent over time, and that after this two-year pandemic cycle, we will live with it the way we live with colds. I am mot convinced that most masks are as effective against delta as people think, and many mask scenarios have to do with comfort level and courtesy, which everyone has the right to pursue.

I was scheduled to attend an indoors yearly event, and at the last minute my husband said we should not take a chance. Today I received photos from the event and there was not a mask in sight.

My daughter, while fully vaccinated, got Covid three weeks ago. She was at the Jersey shore with 7 friends. Four of the eight got Covid, all fully vaccinated. They all thought they had a cold. My daughter thought she had strep and went for a strep test. She was shocked that it was Covid. Although the doctor told her it would have been much more difficult for her if she was not vaccinated.
Since her diagnosis, we have been masking up again indoors. And when I look around it appears that most others have also.
