Do you post reviews on the internet or social media? Several years ago I wrote a series of blogs about how it felt to be the victim of a vicious, and fraudulent, internet attack. Since that time, I have learned how to properly protect my online reputation and how important it is to do so.

I decided, however, that I wanted to take something else out of my personal experience.  I will no longer post a bad review. If I have a problem with the service of any company I will deal with them directly and privately.

Since my own negative experience, I have also made a concerted effort to post positive reviews when I receive good customer service, especially for restaurants who so desperately need to enhance their businesses. Last October I had hired a chef with a portable pizza oven to cater my husband’s 60th birthday party. The food was great and the service was wonderful. I posted about my experience on Facebook. Additionally, I have seen several subsequent posts requesting information on such service. It takes me no time to respond with the vendor’s website and acknowledge my positive experience.

I recently received an email from the vendor thanking me for all my support. He told me that, through my posts, he received at least 7 bookings. As Mitch wrote on Saturday, I did not write the posts for the acknowledgement. But it made me feel good that I was able to help his business in that way.

Do you post on the internet or social media when you have a positive experience? Will you consider doing so now?

I am a frequent Google Maps contributor. I post both positive and negative reviews. I mostly post positive ones, but if there is something blatantly wrong in my opinion (like not serving free tap water at a diner, forcing you buy a bottle), I will definitely bring that up. Likewise an unclean hotel room when traveling. But I often give praise for a positive experience.

I sometimes post. It’s when the experience is either extraordinarily good (usually because of people or products) or extraordinarily bad.

I only like to post about the good service or great food. There are too many factors when you have one bad meal (chef ran off with the dishwasher at 4pm that day, etc.)
But I should point out that anyone I advised to go to wonderful fabulous soul food/two-tone inspired Praline Connection on Frenchman's St in New Orleans is S.O.L. - they closed and the best fried pickles in America are lost to the ages. Also, the only Pralines that won't make your teeth grind on the sugar overload.
