Back in time

I'm always amazed how our mind works. Mind

You can see someone you haven't met with in a long time and all the memories and feelings you had with that person fly in and it feels like you are in those moments again.

Maybe it's a scent, an image or even a deja vu and we are transported to a time and place that feels familiar. Unfortunatley it can also take you back to a place that's painful. (I've had a few of those)

It's like time has no relevance, our mind relives moments that are meaningful. Pay attention...

Or, like happened to me this morning, you run into someone you know and you forget their name. Ugh!!!!!

The mind is a great thing. I know exactly what you mean. Sometimes I will smell something that makes me think of my wonderful Grandparents. So many things can trigger these feelings whether good or bad. Hopefully more good than bad. Our mind is an amazing creation by our Heavenly Father. Have a great weekend.

Crazy too that the older the event, the easier to recall. The first things we tend to forget are the most recent events.

At some point memories are all you have left . In one form or another . The long term memory is the most cherished . Happily it’s the one that remains longest . The “where did I leave my keys? “ memory ? Not so heartfelt . When we cross the bridge after all isn’t it the memories that sustain us in the passage ? I don’t know . I’m just asking ? I once got about half way across the bridge and memories didn’t enter the equation . It was the sense of peace that stands out . Except for that leaping catch I made in centerfield to save the game. Or the clams I dug with my bare feet in Great South Bay . The roller coaster at Palisades Park . My first warm kiss . When you get to be 75 it’s all on autopilot . The psyche is just about complete . The past doesn’t trump the current but maybe the memories come close . The sacred monuments in Yankee Stadium . The 3 inch sirloin on the grill sizzling . The crickets . The dark sky to northwest as the big jets turn final for JFK . One day I might command one of those birds .

Not really. People have told me what happened. I get flashbacks of strong feelings...
