The End of an Era

AIM went away this week. I admit to being among the last few using this old style means of communication. But, I really liked it. It was such a nice quick way of communicating.

We are exploring different alternatives (anyone have any opinions about SKYPE messaging?) but AIM was part of my work day for so many years, that I think I am having an adjustment issue.

I am sure whatever new program we settle on will amply replace that feeling of connectivity that I had with AIM. For now, though, I miss it.

If it is for work - inside the office, you can check if a tool like Slack would be secure enough for a law firm. I also like Zoom.us for video calls. Not a SKYPE fan at all ever...

It is hard adjusting to the loss of a useful tool, but I think you will find an alternative you enjoy more...eventually. The technology is expanding logarithmically.
I also find Zoom to be extremely useful. Live video calls from your phone or desktop. Great for group calls.

I wasn't even sure about what you were talking about. I had to look it up!!!!

Not sure what AIM is. I use Zoom which is great for 1-1 or large groups; you can share your desktop; it can be interactive or not depending on what kind of meeting you set up. It is easy to use, simple to schedule and I have used it internationally without any problems.

I had no clue what it was, but my daughter explained she also used it all the time to communicate with certain people and is also feeling the loss, presently relegated to facebook messenger she explained unhappily.

Good luck! They say any time you change a habit it’s good for the brain. Walk to work a different way, brush your teeth with the other hand, etc. Silver linings. :)

I hadn't used AIM in years; but there was a time when I used it daily. I believe Whatsapp can be used directly on a computer. I use it on my phone.

Did not miss it and I prefer emails as an e-communication. Some people will use Facebook messenger bit I refuse to use in on mobile devices. As I use Apple devices I can text message from my Mac, iPad and iPhone as long as I am connected to wifi or cellular. For the campaign we used the GroupMe App. I was able set it up to work with my iMessaging which I found more convenient.

I miss it! When Robbie was younger, his away message was a window into his soul. My law firm used it as a communication tool between staff, in and out of Court. We use another intra-office chat now, but it is not as versatile as that old oldie but goodie AIM!
