The Armrest Revisited

I was reminded of Rona's blog of a few weeks ago about armrests when I went to an off-Broadway last week. (Rona's armrest incident was on an airplane.) As I found my seat in the small theatre, I could have been mistaken for taking the seat already occupied by the woman in the next seat. When she re-arranged herself, her coat and her pocketbook, I was able to sit -- only to encounter the challenge of the armrest between our seats. As I tried to get comfortable, my arm settled on the armrest only to be bumped by hers. And then came the unexpected. "We can share the armrest." A nice offer but the thought of her arm resting against mine didn't work for me. I laughed politely without making any commitment. I slid closer to Flo who was in the other seat next to me, shared her armrest, and enjoyed the show.

A seat on the aisle halves the problem...

Its an armrest jungle out there, just stay calm and share when you can.

I just had the issue again on a red-eye flight back from Phoenix. I just cuddled up to Phil and, thankfully, fell into a deep sleep (apparently it was a very bumpy flight which would have freaked me out).

I never realized until reading the latest blogs that I rarely, if ever, use the armrests, ergo one less problem in my life. I will try to pay more attention to what I actually do with my arms next time I am in the theater. It does appear however that you were seated next to someone who was trying to be friendly, it might been a very different evening if she were a grouch. Glad you were able to enjoy the show.

agree with Fred. I always go for the aisle seat in such circumstance
