Thanksgiving Traditions

Rona has the food covered from her blog yesterday.  Today, I want to talk about traditions for your Thanksgiving that are not food related.  For years, we went around the table saying what we were thankful for.

Two years ago, we Thanksgivinged (that should be a word, really) with our family in Florida where, with forethought, a question had been placed at each setting and we went around the table discussing our questions.

Last year, on a similar theme, using a Table Topics game my daughter had been given as a birthday gift, we posed the pre-set topics around the table.

Looking for something new this year as entertainment. What do you do at your Thanksgiving table -- in addition to giving thanks, of course!

Lots of over eating and fun filled drinking!

You can all gather and listen to either or both versions of Alice's Restaurant. Perhaps more a pros pro this season.

Minimal talking, lots of eating. Then we all usually slowly move into our family room and watch more football until we are able finally eat dessert.

Just getting together with our family is entertainment and I love it. Our vegan, vegetarian, non-vegan, non-vegetarian family all eat ourselves to the point of extreme happiness. Unfortunately many are missing from our table but we are grateful for the ones who are there. I think this year there may be serious discussions about what is happening around us, but hope we will try to remember all those we have to be thankful for---and Corey thank you for the link to Alice, I intend to listen this weekend. Great memories indeed. I wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving holiday--we have tried to reach out to those without family to incorporate them into ours for the day-- not a good day to be alone. The Nassau County Bar Association opens its doors to Seniors on Thursday who have nowhere else to go for a lovely Thanksgiving meal.

We have also always done the what do you have to be thankful thing. However the most outstanding event that I recall, which never became a tradition, but was a one time highlight, was watching the Macy's Day Parade balloons get blown up the night before on Central Park West.
