Overheard Underground

Recently, I was minding my own business as I ascended the subway escalator when I heard one person ask the other "how are you?" The response was "great, only better is you".

Really?  I never heard such a thing.  Is it some sort of 21st century compliment?

I'm happy with who I am!

Bro ! U can't ride the NYC subway and mind your own business . If you see something you have to say something . Hear something you have to say something . "Great, only better is you ? " sounds like a lyric from Subterranean Homesick Blues ! There . I got my Nobel plug in for my former boss . But seriously ...Great only better is you is code brother ! Yes CODE ! It's a Syrian refugee code . It means " who is that guy with the white hair and beard minding his own business think he's doing"? Listening in to our conversation in broken English . Hundreds of thousands of us and we get this snoop behind us ?"
