Crushing Blow

The boys have worked so hard all year.  We were an expansion team, so we didn't have any returning players like all the rest of the league.  With the hopes of being the team to beat in the future, we drafted young so that we would be very good in the upcoming years.  We didn't expect to compete this season, but then we were able to pick-up the one elite player in the draft.  Even though he is only 13, he is close to 6'3" has a monstrous shot, had developed into a shut-down defenseman and is the leader of our team.  The young players worked very hard and we managed to finish 5th out of nine teams in the Junior division (an accomplishment in our first year).  We swept our higher ranked opponent in the first round of the playoffs and now face the best team in the league.  We were one of only two teams to beat them this season.  The boys were on fire and truly believed that we had a good chance of an upset championship.

Then disaster struck.  When we arrived at practice tonight, his younger brother, also on the team told us what happened.  Our top player was hit from behind at ice hockey last night and broke his collarbone.  It is not over, but it has now become practically a miracle for us to defeat this juggernaut.  We will give 'em hell though.  I guess time to see what we're made of.

It's all going to come down to getting the rest of the team elevate their level of play to make up for their fallen leader. This is one of those moments that coaches should live for. Get out there and inspire them. I bet you'll do just fine.

Your team has an incredible advantage!!! It is the only team there with the backing of an UNBEATABLE FORCE. The 800 + strong Gotham networking members. We ALL are in your corner and will help you to do your best. Nothing can stop us now. The other team hasn't got a chance.

Will be thinking of you!! Good luck! But I have a stupid question, what sport are you playing? :)

LOL, not a stupid question Rona considering all the sports I have coached. This is roller hockey. Full contact. We will try to replace size and dominance with heart.
