Recently, I’ve played a lot of golf. “Gettin’ down to divot town”, “ following the path of righteousness in my swing.” Literally learning the swing, then closing my eyes and following thru. YES! I hit the ball with my eyes closed. Twice. For me? About 100 swings for 18 holes. Maybe 90-95. That’s a lot of swings. Hence, proper stretching is required, along with a good soak, a foam roller and a theraball for sore glutes. At this maturing age, proper stretching isn’t optional, it’s required. No more grip and rip. Are there any other athletes out there learning how to stay in the game?
I have to admit that I sometimes struggle with sleep. I never had a problem when I was young but with age comes wisdom – and apparently insomnia.
This weekend was the weekend. I got my hair colored. The moment I see those pesky gray hairs peaking through, I start figuring out the best time to get my color done. Every so often I think about embracing my gray. Women such as Helen Mirren, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Meryl Streep have done so and look phenomenal. I wonder why can’t I?
Last year at this time, the outdoor office was nearly complete. Going into this weekend I was not sure time would allow me to power wash the deck; that task remains the prerequisite to deploying the deck furniture stored in the shed, including the umbrellas.
Once in a while I notice a screw or small bolt somewhere on the floor in my house. I pick it up, stare at it and look around to see where it came from. I check all the surrounding furniture and appliances but nothing is misssing. So, I place it in a small draw on a table in my bedroom thinking I'll eventually find what this screw is holding together. However, that never seems to happen.
Events Chairman Norm Spizz and our Golf Committee (Brad Scherer, Corey Bearak, David Perry, Fred Morante, Jayne Latz, Laurel Scarr-Konel, Matt Plociak, Neal Berman, Reliable Ray Walcott, Shelley Simpson, Steve Reisner and Vincent Derogotis) are hard at work preparing for our October 7th Bob Formica Golf Out at Engineers Country Club where we got our start many moons ago.   Details will be on Fredslist soon and I hope to see you there.
We recently visited Great Barrington, Massachusetts. The Berkshires is one of our favorite places and we visit several times a year. Because of Covid, we had not been there in several months. There have been changes on Railroad Street in Great Barrington, a commercial street off of Main Street. Bizen, the Japanese restaurant (owned and operated by our cousin), is the focal point of the one block street.
I had a different blog set for this morning, but something Fred said in our Philadelphia Gotham meeting last night prompted me to save the planned blog for another day, and write about the author. Fred is an amazing person. We all know this, and we surely have told him the same. Fred chooses the best in all of us and draws it to the surface. Like a gardner, he waters those talents and makes sure they get plenty of sunshine to grow strong.
