[Fredslist] Summer Intern Housing

My cousin's son will be doing his internship during June 1st to August 15th or so at 52nd & Third.  He is looking for the best housing solution.  He has looked at links for NYU, FIT, and New School. All of them have dorm space available for summer interns, but the price is approx $4,000. He has no idea which one would be a better fit in terms of transportation back and forth to work, or which area might have more "happening" in the evenings/weekends?

He also would like to know if there are any apartments or AirBnB's that would be available.
