What a treat today when Maria Guida, one of Gotham's most treasured resources, made a terrific presentation and led an informative discussion on the role body language and nonverbal communication plays during an expert witness' presentations whether to clients, opposing lawyers, judges or jurors. Relying heavily on her acting experience, she taught us how to segment our presentations into what actors call "beats" and both to identify specific audience-based objectives for each of those beats and to deliver our presentations in a way that best achieves our objectives, relying on such often-overlooked nonverbal cues as our vocal pitch, tone, timbre, rate, volume, facial expressions, gestures, etc. In a very short 45-minute presentation, she managed to teach us, have us practice before and after readings of presentations and handed us well planned and documented summaries of her presentation. Needless to say, we ALL learned a lot today and our thanks to
Maria for an inspiring luncheon meeting. Our next meeting, January 12 at 12:30PM at Fabio Piccolo Fiore's (230 E.44th between 2nd and 3rd) will feature fellow Gothamite Lew Tesser, leading us in a discussion about the ethics and ethical constraints confronting experts. Please RSVP to me directly. Gerry
