Subject: [Fredslist] Long Island Incubator Ideas
Last night, the following good Gotham Folk attended the Long Island
Incubator: Fred Klein, Alan Klein (no relation), Hedy Horowitz, Marc
Horowitz (no relation), Annamarie Bondi-Stoddard, David Abeshouse, Irwin
Kirschenbaum, Barry Knepper, and Victor Urbach.
The sprit and spirits of the evening were quite good.
After several rounds of drinks, the first suggestion made was to kill
all the Gotham lawyers. Since this would reduce the membership roll by
at least 50%, it was rejected by the Fred Klein.
Next idea was to create a Gotham "White Paper" library. All Gotham
members in good standing would be allowed to create and post a 6 to 12
page paper in their area of specific expertise. As a true White Paper,
each would contain superior educational content and no promotional
crapola. (Of course, contact information and a link back to the member's
profile would be provided.) We need to evaluate the technical
feasibility of incorporating this library into the Gotham web site but
once done, the benefits would be manifold. For one, if made accessible
to the outside world / search engines, it would provide much nutritious
spider food. Secondly, it would showcase the expertise contained within
our membership. Lastly, the White Paper library would provide a rich
informational resource for the benefit of all Gotham members.
The last good idea of the evening would be to hold a "White Collar Trade
Show." Ideally, we would take a big space, enough so that any Gotham
member who wanted one would get a six foot draped table and banner. On
one day, on a grand scale, we could facilitate interaction among the
entire NY Metro Gotham community. Even better would be to hold separate
events on different days in NYC and Long Island. (Since some folks are
apparently afraid of traveling across bridges and through tunnels.)
It was mentioned that this trade show concept had been brought up
before, but withered on the vine. We agreed that to make it a success, a
professional event planner should be retained, and the total cost of
venue/planner be divided up amongst all exhibitors, without a profit
margin. The Trade Show would also require a volunteer (NOT Victor
Urbach) to act as internal Gotham liaison.
