[Fredslist] Need recommendations for Singapore & Bangkok

Gothamites,

I am going to Singapore at the end of April, and then onto Bankok, and I'm 
looking for places to stay for a couple of nights.  I would like to be 
centrally located, and near some tourist/cultural places as well as public 
transporation, as I would like to be able to walk out of the hotel and see 
the sights.  I am also looking for recommendations on sights to see in both 
places, as well as other areas of Indonesia and Thailand.

I'm only going to be in Singapore and Bangkok for about 2 days each, and 
then head out to some rural areas.  Any recommendations on places to go and 
sights to see in both coutries are appreciated.  I'm looking for 
recommendations for everything, including places to stay, things to see, 
restaurants to try, and especially hidden local sites off the beaten path.
