The rules are changing

Its become official, an announcement had been made. The 2 governing bodies of the game of golf have agreed that it is time to "Roll back" the golf ball for the pros. They say this should take place of the next year or two. I think its time. The pros have taken the game to point where the golf courses are over powered by the players. 350 yard drives are now the average. Par 5s are now considered a "Free" Birdie opportunity. The club and golf ball technology have advanced to a point where the game at the professional level is not much of a challenge for the Pro golfers on tour. If they roll back the distance of the golf ball for the pros perhaps the weekly tournaments and the majors will be more competitive? The everyday amateur's can continue to play the same balls they play today. Everyone agrees that the advancement in golf club and golf ball technology has made the game more enjoyable, more competitive for the everyday players. This "Bi-furcation" is looked to be good for the game. I think it will be.

Never played a round of golf nor do I have an interest in it. But I agree, professional golf has gotten too good and this makes sense.

9/9/24, good to know!

Shawn etc. I wouldn’t buy any balls now if you can help it. Just a matter of time before ‘conforming’ balls are different than what you’re buying now.

When rules change for professionals, it trickles to the rest of us pretty quickly.

Am hoarding balls for the annual Bob Formica Classic!

Wow, Don't get me started. This sounds like a discussion to be continued tonight.... FRED M.
