It almost seems that the pandemic is in our rear-view window. Yet, for me there have been some permanent changes in our lives.

Before the pandemic, when certain sort of movies opened (read Science Fiction), I had to see science fiction movies in the theaters as soon as I could. I firmly believed that these movies could only be seen, and properly appreciated, on the large screen.  During the pandemic we began seeing first run movies on the big screen in our home “theater.” And I have completely changed my attitude. I can easily wait for films to stream when I can watch them in the comfort of my home, where I do not have to contend with people on cell phones, talking etc.

I actually, now prefer, to watch movies in my home theater, covered in my blanket, rather than in public movie theaters.

Court appearances have also changed for me. At the beginning of the pandemic I was very skeptical, and even concerned, about having virtual court appearances. Now I prefer them. This week I had to drive to Queens for a three-minute status conference. On the way back to the office I lamented about the tremendous waste of time, and gas, forcing three attorneys to travel to the courthouse for a three-minute update.

Has anything changed in your life as a result of the pandemic?

With Zoom you can't read body movements. Support parks and benches!
Without movie theaters (and all other theaters) you cannot accidentally meet people you know or people who simply look interesting. Support restaurants!
Support Public Transportation! It is safer and less costly than trying to drive.

First, happy Memorial Day to all! And thanks to those who served. We appreciate being homebodies, and definitely don’t go to the movies as much. Not sure if that is because of Covid or because of new streaming options and convenience. I agree about zoom. Definitely pros and cons. I tell my students you can be “on your bed“ but not “in your bed!”

I too find the commuting for meetings is a waste of time. And equallyrecognize something lost .. for example, the spark of meeting, even sensing someone / something new. It's funny how we adjust to things new. I remember a Star Trek episode in which Kirk, and others were being beamed down to earth. At the last moment someone said, "Wait. They use money on earth. We need to be sure to bring some." Covid forced us .... forward perhaps ... into a virtual existence ... perhaps Star Trek like ... with some good, some disliked,, some uncertain. I'm looking forward to be "beamed up." I expect there were social anxieties around other significant discoveries - starting with fire, the wheel. And industrialization. I admit, I'm anxious about AI.

We stopped going to movie theaters for the most part. I hate the distraction with people texting or even talking. As for major changes, the pandemic allowed us to move and hardly miss a beat at work. Yes I fly more than I ever did, but doing that once a month sure beast the daily senseless commute to an from the office.

I have no desire to go back to a movie theatre -- and I loved movie night out pre-pandemic.
