Live v. Zoom

We often call our Gotham Network which hosts this blog a tribe.  The success of two meetings last  evidences that moniker.  I enjoyed two breakfast time networking meetings on successive mornings last week.  One meeting I chaired virtually; the other I participated in-person.  Each had its benefits.  I saw and interacted with people I enjoy, do some business with or refer business to, to just help or advise.  Both mornings I also met interesting professionals.

Last Wednesday via Zoom Gotham Business POWER Breakfast ("GBPB") and Gotham Queens (aka "GQ") met jointly; I ran the meeting.  GBPB coordinators Vincent Chirico and Shelley Simpson and GQ coordinator Dan Schwartz made sure everyone had the Zoom details.

Thursday, Gotham Long Island and Gotham LI Legal met jointly in a conference room at Certilman Balin in East Meadow courtesy of its partner Jas Mayall; Michael Garibaldi, the chair of both groups ran the meeting.  The coordinator of both groups, Lisa Waterman did her usual excellent job reminding members and inviting interesting guests.

Gotham co-founder Fred Klein with help from some involved in each shared details of our tribe's networking and social events.

Both in-person and virtual worked for this correspondent.

I love the live interaction and social values of meeting in person. But convenience due to my location makes virtual more attainable. Both have their places and glad Gotham offers opportunities to meet your preference. Wednesdays virtual joint meeting between Queens and Power had 24 participants at one point and at least 5 donations to the Season of Giving (thank you Hans Hansen for helping create the drive), that was a special moment.

It's all about who is in the "room." and the intention each brings to the experience. There is a difference between attending a meeting and being present. And as I have often said, the fun (and the fortune) is in the follow up. Both are what we make of them.

I got used to meeting virtually. It broadens my opportunities to meet people that would be hard to meet in person. At the same time, it's good to have in-person events from time to time, and Gotham does that too. The best of both worlds!
