Mets, Citi Field, Opening Day

It certain circles in an out of Gotham, even on Zooms, folks asked why I wore my Gotham baseball cap; they often noticed my clothing failed to include any Mets gear.  No, it forecast no change in my fandom.  Just a promise kept — and realized last Thursday.

When the baseball season ended I stopped wearing either of my Mets hoodies and any of my three Mets baseball caps.  I made a promise not to darn any of my Mets gear until the earlier of either Opening Day for the Mets or they resign the player who hit more homers than anyone else as a Mets — which ever comes first.

Well, the Mets failed to even offer that worthy player a contract; he plays first base for the Orioles now; boo!

That meant on Opening Day last Thursday, I got to wear one of my Mets Hoodies and a Mets baseball cap.  I chose the cap that states “Mets” on it.  I also wore the “2025 Opening Day” t-shirt my friend and fellow Gotham member Scott Bloom gave me that day last year.

Despite some issues with parking at Citi Field (nothing like many others endured), with parking prepaid I got in the lot early enough to tailgate with Scott and my daughter Marisa (Our setup used a portable table provided to Gotham Golf Outing attendees several years ago.)

Later my brother, Richy with son Doug joined us.

At our seats later Erik Scheibe and his son, Jon Kaiman and Tom Dwyer and eventually fellow Queens Commuity Board 13 member Max Barton joined us.

It was a fun day, a memorable day.

The Mets won and we can say we attended the game Carson Benge hit his first home run.
