From Middle to End and Back Again

From Middle to End and Back Again

When I started going to the movies with friends in middle school and high school, I learned a valuable lesson about movie going.  It was very simple -- there is an actual start time for a movie so you can see the entire film from beginning to end.  Until that point, I really didn't know that a movie schedule existed.

Growing up, my family approached movies differently.  Whenever going to the movies fit into the schedule, we went.  We stood on line for popcorn, quietly navigated our way into a dark theatre and found our seats.

The movie was always already in full swing but we were usually quick to pick up the story. We would stay until the end -- and then wait for the movie to start all over again.  When we rounded the corner to where we came in, it was time to go.

A little odd, you think?  You're probably right.  But, I will say that midway moving going gives an entirely different perspective about a story.

I can't imagine that this blog is going to draw a record number of comments, as our Gotham blogs go, but I was reminded of this family oddity and decided to share.  You are welcome to share your own family stories in the comments.

What about the previews? That's my favorite part.

Although now you can easily watch the trailers online. It sort of takes away from the going to the movies experience.
