Memories

Memory is a funny thing. There are some things I have a lot of trouble remembering. Several times a week, I’ll find myself walking into the pantry in my house or the file room in my office only to forget what I went in to get. And five minutes after I take my daily vitamin, I find myself trying to remember whether, in fact, I actually took the pill.

Yet, there are some things I hope to never forget;  how it felt to first hold my children, how it felt to say “I do,” to the right person, sailing under the Centennial Bridge in the Panama Canal (yes, I had to look up the name of the bridge), or to see the Northern Lights. These are memories I hope I will always hold.

I spent this past weekend with my college roommates. The memories from over thirty years ago that we were able to recall and share were incredible. Just don’t ask me what I had for breakfast while with them on Sunday morning, I can’t remember.

Sometimes your spouse or old friends can recall memories that you have forgotten.

Nancy, I remember that too. I was initially so intimidated by you. You were a whole year senior to me and already assigned to a department. I could not have imagined, when we first met, what an incredible friend you would become.

Patient; Doctor i keep forgetting things.
Doctor: How long have you had this problem/
Patient; What problem?

Rona, you had coffee, yogurt/granola, and a banana. Fun weekend, and glad you could remember the mock wedding in college, even if half our suitemates couldn't. (Posted by Kathy)

SO true about remembering (or, more accurately, not remembering)!

I can't even tell you how many times a day I am in the room with a patient, and I think of something important to tell my front desk person, and by the time I get there, I have NO Idea what in the world I was thinking of... Also Facebook has made me realize how much I had forgotten. I will see a thread going on from some old classmates discussing an event that happened 35 years ago or so, and all of them have something to comment about, and I can barely remember anything at all of what they are discussing.

We recall the fond memories and some things we need to. Other things we have others and other things to help on recall. Nice blog!
