COVID 2024

I am presently recovering from my second, lifetime, case of Covid and the unpleasant experience warrants a cautionary blog.

Last Wednesday night, after burning the candle at both ends for too long, I ventured into the city for our annual rooftop (thank you Sylvie) New York Health & Aging Summer meeting.

I hitched a ride with Ben Geizhals along with wife Flo, Odey Raviv and my granddaughter Maggie.

I had no symptoms, but felt run down.

I enjoyed the night mixing with many Gothamites old and new, spending most of the night outdoors on the beautiful Maison Beljanski terrace.

When I got home I was spent and felt something coming on through the night.  I tested positive in the morning, contacted my doctor and was soon taking the Paxlovid he prescribed.

I determined to give myself the best chance to recover and therefore rested as best I could, passing on swimming and other exercise.

I immediately notified everyone I came into contact with Wednesday night and fortunately, to date, none, other than Flo, Odey and Ben, have tested positive.   Thus, Maggie and Joanne are, so far, unscathed.

I am very sorry for infecting those above and those I endangered!

I think I contracted the virus at an indoor Hot Tuna concert the previous Sunday night.

Some observations:

Paxlovid dulls one's taste

Consider testing when run down

Cover your mouth when coughing

Consider wearing a mask

Stay away from indoor concerts

PS: Ironic that it unfolded at the New York Health and Aging Group!

As I mentioned, Victoria and I had it a few months ago. I think you’re right, being very rundown is the telltale sign. Other than being extremely exhausted, I really didn’t have any symptoms. A few days later, Victoria got it and when she said that she felt very tired, the lightbulb went off.

Do you think the Paxlovid helped? There have been reports that it is effective.

I used it and it has run its course. I think it helped :)

Unfortunately we can’t burn the candle at both ends like we used to. I found my 2 bouts with Covid happened after periods of time when I was having too much fun. Although in my heart and soul I’m Forever Young- physically I have to slow down a little bit. Instead of 5 activities in a day - I try to limit myself to 4 - ha ha ha

There is no way to avoid picking up a virus and it looks like COVID will be like the others - here to stay. The good thing is that you are otherwise healthy and able to "enjoy" and easy recovery.
Daniel Schwartz

It seems there is no way to avoid it as it's is part of life now. You can't stay inside all the time and stop living. Glad you are doing better.

I'm so glad that you're feeling better. I thought that the Paxlovid was almost as bad as the Covid, by the way. I did feel unusually run down after the roof party and was glad to have 2 negative tests. It's hard to tell what's going on when we're so busy and the humidity is so oppressive. ime to go back to masks for inside events, I guess, as Covid is here to stay.

Glad you are on the mend. Interesting about the run down feeling. Chicken or the egg - is the run down the Covid brewing inside or does being run down make one more susceptible to getting it - or both. Hope Ben, Flo and Odey are on the mend as well.

"What comes around; goes around.....in Cars" ! Hope you feel better soon.

Thankfully, I have a mild case and am glad Fred let me know that he tested positive just before I was about to visit my 3 month old grandchild. My daughter was very thankful that Fred let me know in the nick of time!! COVID is our reality and it has consequences!

Sartre said "Hell is other people". Today he might have said Covid is other people. Best to avoid crowds of them in enclosed space, breathing out when you are breathing in.

I did test positive 24 hours later. Is that possible? Never had a sniffle or fever. Just extreme fatigue for five days. Then sluggish. Now ok. I've worn out my welcome with Paxlovid so took Beljanki's antiviral PAU and it worked at least as well as Paxlovid without the side effects plus the added advantage of killing any cancers and reducing inflammation. The next time I'm in a group, I will take it defensively. Thanks for going public. Now, get more rest!

It seems to be running rampant again. My sister in law had "a cold." I asked her if she tested. She hadn't. She called me the next day and told me she tested and was positive. Feel good Fred.

ALERT! Covid is so rampant, the US government is now making test kits available for free once again.
