Strawberries at night

We had a Strawberry Moon last night. Did you see it?

This year, the Full Moon coincides with the summer solstice. It reached peak illumination at 9:08PM last night. Because of this, today the Sun will be at its highest of the year.

Fun Facts: June’s full Moon—typically the last full Moon of spring or the first of summer—has traditionally been called the Strawberry Moon. While strawberries certainly are a reddish-pink color and are roundish in shape, the origin of the name “Strawberry Moon” has nothing to do with the Moon’s hue or appearance. A Moon usually appears reddish when it’s close to the horizon because the light rays must pass through the densest layers of the atmosphere.

So break out some fresh strawberries and celebrate!

Down side is that it's starting to get darker...

We went up the coast of Connecticut this week and stayed at a cabin near the beach. Went to a farmstand and procured a basket of fresh strawberries, which I washed and hulled in the bathroom sink, put into the provided coffee cups, and ate with our fingers while sitting in Adirondack chairs. Went to bed with red-stained fingertips.
