A Snowbird's Farewell

Categories
Lifestyle

Yes, we are "Snowbirds" (northerners who move to a warmer southern state to escape Winter) and we have been escaping in Paradise (Key West) for four warm, fun filled, months and, truth be told, as I write this, I am sad to leave.

But leave we must as Family and an alternative, full, abundant life awaits us in Springtime New York.

What will I miss? I will miss bicycling in bike friendly, flat, Key West (especially in the grave yard). I will miss my, fully devoted to fun, Albury Street neighbors (especially Bingo Jo). I will miss the "Twilight Zone" Chart Room. I will miss pre dawn con leche. I will miss monthly (raucous) Boys Night Out upstairs at Point 5 on Duval Street, hosted by lovely Heather Gatley (plus unexpected, explosive night caps). I will miss my 5:00 Cuba Libre on my front porch. I will miss fellow Syracuse alum, born again, Key West Lou. I will miss encountering random people saying "Good Morning". I will miss the monthly "Walk on White" at the fabulous Harrison Gallery. I will miss achieving the 82 mile marker and look forward to much more...

Sametime next year :)

That makes me feel so melancoly on one hand, but so happy for you on the other hand that you have such a full, rich, enjoyable life while you, Joanne, and Charcoal are in your get-away Key West. Think of how you will be missed there and welcomed back here in NY. I end this saying how delighted I am for you that your life is so rich in so many ways, and that I am one teeny tiny part of it, enriching my own life in the process! New York welcomes you home!

It must be buttersweet. But you are very fortunate to be a dual citizen of these two states.. You have more social time down south than I do and I envy that. I do look forward to my monthly visit to NY to get my quick fix and some old friends and colleagues but its nice to know I will be back soon enough to our little slice of paradise.

You were are living your best life no matter where you are. And your home travels with you in Joanne and charcoal. You are lucky to have a rich life in two places. And you have a 3 baller to look forward to. I for one will be happy to see you home :)!

I “feel you”. Also being blessed to have homes in two different, and wonderful locations makes us long for the other often. It’s good for the eyes and soul.

You surround yourself with love wherever you are and that is a powerful example to us all. Thank you.

I feel ya. Although depression sets in when I as a "snowflake" commute back and forth from NY to FLA; especially during the winter. Alas, all is well as the proverbial "swallows" return to Long Island so we can shortly anticipate the opening of our beach club on M-Day weekend. FLA is a magical place for me as my grandparents, parents, ex-FIL and sister all had places down here in S. FLA. "82" like the Who said, "Is going to be a good year!" enjoy Spring & Summer in NY.

An embarrassment of blessings...well worn and well-deserved. Keep spreading the cheer!

Key West is a perfect place for your winters and the rest of the year, NY will be perfect, too.
Very Lucky. And, Welcome back>
