Fourth Floor Walk-Ups

Categories

Three of our four children live on the fourth floor of their respective buildings. The two in Brooklyn are walk-ups, while one in Seattle has an elevator

I think walk-ups are healthy. Flo had a Great Aunt Anna who lived in a fifth floor walk up in the Bronx. She lived into her nineties. I bet the walk-up had something to do with her longevity.

So I am favorable to Mayor Bloomberg's recently announced initiative that new architecture in New York City be sensitive to, and encourage, stairs.

I looked out at the parking lot at the gym this morning and saw what I always see -- spaces closer to the building are preferred. Why not force a little extra healthy walk by parking not-so-close?

I guess it would be the suburban equivalent to the fourth-floor walk up.

I always walk subway stairs for that reason.

I think Bloombergs initiatives come from a good place. I agree with this one as well. As our children lead more sedentary lives, (blame technology and fear)this should be the new norm.
I might curse while walking up the stairs, still I will do anything to remain heart healthy!

I walk whenever possible. Yes, I'm one of those that walk up the escalator when the escalator is the only option. If I can schedule enough time between appointments to walk, I do. Whether this will help me live to a ripe old age, I don't know; but my doctor has advised me to make young friends so I'm not alone later on. :)

I walk up the escalator and not afraid to park on the top floor of parking lot...Fred

Walk ups are great until you have to move out or into one :)

My son also is on the 4th floor in his new place. Where time matters not I park at far end of the lot.

When I first moved to the city we were in a 5th floor walk up .... on the 5th floor. To make it more interesting the buzzer did not work to let anyone in so it meant running down 5 flights to greet guests. After 1.5 years I was flying up those stairs. That and racing up and down subways stairs and long walks to the office, in between jogging and tennis was great exercise. I miss those days.

When I am being "good" I park away from my office building and climb the stairs to our second floor offices. When I'm not good, you can see my car right up in front.

We live in a 5th fl walk up ... working on enjoying buns of steel and we certainly have learned not to forget anything! So it's good for the body and the mind.
