A Man of Our Times

Corey Bearak is one of the true gems of Gotham. He is a gifted political strategist and always willing to help in that arena. In addition, however, he is always willing to help any Gotham member with any issue they may have whether it is in his area of expertise or not. He has often given me wonderful advice with respect to issues that appear to have nothing to do with his area of professional expertise. He truly deserved the honor of Networker of the Year.

In addition to all Corey is in his professional life, he also loves music and often writes about various shows he has seen. To me, Corey is almost a library of musical information. And, because of that, I have been playing a little game with him for the past year. And even though he may not, actually he probably does, know we have been playing a game, he’s been winning. In fact, not only has he been winning, he has a perfect score.

Corey “sets up” my blog every Monday; meaning he sends out the email letting Gotham know the blog is up and a short synopsis of what the blog is about. Whenever I can, I sneak a song lyric or title into the title of my blog. Every time I have done it, Corey has recognized the song and provided a link in the comments to a video of the song being performed.

I would like to stump Corey just one time. So help me out Gotham. Any suggestions for obscure song references I can use?

Squeeze's main players during a mid-80's hiatus released an album and toured as Difford & Tilbrook. One of the cuts is A Man for All Seasons. That may be as close as I can come up with a "matching" song title, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5EzLmPbmOjE
This one is just Glenn on acoustic guitar, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XqLBb4yTHJc
BUT
I found a Genesis song of the exact title from the 1980 "Duke" LP, and this link even includes lyrics: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XkNRWjeIVSM
Fred Klein

Early R&B song named after a car credited by some as first Rock n' Roll record?

Not our Father’s Oldsmobile!?
I suspect you mean a song by Ike Turner:

That would be Rocket 88 by Ike Turner in 1951 but credited to Jackie Brenston his saxophone guy . Bill Haley and the Comets did a version also . Named after the Oldsmobile 88 model . The first " muscle " car . A 303 cubic inch V8. That being said . I'm with ya on Corey . This guy always takes the time out to respond to my sometime rants with the patience and level headed response that always calms me down . Not many people are capable of that . For me it's about respect . Corey and I converse . Differ and move forward . I know where you're coming from Rona . ! Thanks Corey for being a Mench !

I don't have an obscure song to add, but I do second your observation about Corey.

Thx Neil. I guess you missed my reply to Fred. I found it so interesting it was about the Olds 88. BYW, my third car was a 71 Cutlass Supreme -- Still my fave ever. I drove it home from Detroit -- really. I remember Dad's cousin Mark visiting me in that car when I was 15. Grandma's brother was trading it in about 3 years later and since they were visiting Uncle Sam in Detroit, and the dealer only offered like $650, Grandpa gave his brother in law the cash. It has white leather seats. Mom's dad drove me to LaGuardia to get the fly there. So the whole family sort of got involved.

Somehow I missed this on Monday. Corey has provided me with some wonderful music on Sundays, it was my introduction to Gotham Blogs. He is indeed everything you have written, a truly unique person, Mensch seems like a very good word.
