Closer to home

home, house, Grand Junction

If my recollections remain correct I’ve called ten places home, three almost a sort of hiatus between more longer term stays. I thought about that as my son looks forward to his latest home. Two shared with his parents. My son experienced three of the City’s five boroughs as a home. I’ve remained in Queens with a brief early stay across its eastern border. Some experience many homes. Some not so many. My daughter has only known two homes; her mom four.

Even my latest (last?) home has undergone some adaptations; same address/ location but changes occurred within; perhaps that means a new place of sorts. Let others decides on that.

By the way, our daughter gave our home a name; after a Poco song of course (composed by its one original member).

So how many place have you called home?

(as to the blog title, here's what inspired it.)

From birth only five, with four being in Roslyn. Very insular.

Home means different things. Is it a structure? A country/City/town? Or where your heart is? I’ve been fortunate to have many homes in many places around the world and each has a piece of my heart.

My home is in my heart and the hearts of those I love. I’ve been so fortunate to live in many different spots until I found Paradise in 1975 in Manhattan. Can’t imagine just staying in one town for an entire life...So many places to see on this tiny planet.

Interesting question, we just had a version of this discussion. I lived in Brooklyn until I was 6. Then, right before first grade, we moved to Long Island. When people ask, I say I grew up on Long Island. My children feel I am being untruthful, that I grew up in Brooklyn. I do not feel as if I am being untruthful.

stable - most of mine were within 1/2 mi of each other four in same zip code, six with same zip code digits. And how do you count KW?

Noticed the capital P in Paradise. Is that a name you use much like we have a name for this place.

I’d have to give that some thought as to whether every place I’ve lived would be home — depends on definition, my younger daughter even considered her college dorms and apts. home because that’s where she lived during those years —but for the past 37 years where I am now has been my home.

Interesting on the dorms. I raised that with my daughter and she said not to count them or her study abroad. I take it as a personal choice.

Brooklyn for most of my life, three different locations over the years. Lynbrook for the past 13 or so years. I do see Florida as an eventual destination. Enjoying Cocoa Beach as I write this.

What an interesting blog! I never thought before about how many places I've lived and if I had not written down all the addresses I probably would have said fewer, but this is my seventh home. And I didn't realize either that Ive been here 2nd longest than any of my other homes.. I will say that when my parents were living, any place they lived was home to me.
Ellyn Finkelstein

Lived In the Bronx/ Throgggs Neck. In 2 different homes. My grandfather built the second home.

Interesting how the LI Sound plays a bit of a role in your residential life.
