She's a zealot

Here's a real life story...think about who's on what side when you read this.

A couple has been married for more than 30 years. They've always had political differences - she leans one way while he leans the other - but that never prevented them from amicably discussing polictics. However, this all changed during the recent presidential campaign...She has become a nearly fantical ______ supporter, reacting to any criticism, no matter how benign, with vitriol. She now hates the other side and regards people who share those views as simply contemptible. The husband is now weary - and frightened - of her diabtribes and no longer brings up the topic.

Who is she supporting? Does it matter?

The wife  in this story is now intolerant of people who don't share her opinion. Her behaviors show she doesn't think her husband is worthy of respect and his reactions indicate he is moving in that same direction.

All of us, at the very least, need to respect one another enough to listen and try to understand. Be heroic.

The sad fact is that the other side is so busy defending their position they aren't able to acknowledge any other POV. I just experience it. Someone I know passed an article referencing parents who are teaching children to hate Trump with The Holocaust. What was upsetting was the very provacative headline. I simply asked that if this person was going to feed such horrific media manipulation that she at least put a disclaimer. The response was it was the responsibility of others not her. I stated that we give energy to negativity by repeating it rather than letting it die and that I was sadden she felt it was someone else's' responsibility when she was the person passing it. It was a headline that in the hands of the wrong person could validate hate against Jews. Her response was that my being sad for her was my choice. It makes me think that you can't talk to crazy because reason is a tool that won't work for crazy.

Though zealots have their place in history, now is not their time. If we don't learn to understand our fellow humans we are never to progress. I know it is happening, people are waking up and listening.
I agree Esther, you can't negotiate with crazy, you just have to separate and move on to those who are willing.

My advice ? It's hard to listen when you have your add up your ass . Remove head from ass and LISTEN UP folks ! THIS IS OUR COUNTRY we are talking about. Get over yourselves and pay attention to what YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR COUNTRY ! NOT WHAT YOUR COUNTRY CAN DO FOR YOU ! (JFK)

What are you doing for your country? I am writing, calling, marching, donating, reaching out, smiling, not being a victim, paying taxes, etc etc. What do you suggest?

I have never seen such a heavy debate, even after the election..many like myself will not speak out beyond my comfort zone--feelings and emotions are blown way out of proportion. I say let the facts speak for themselves. Watch and learn. At some point, it is not enough to be a bystander. While I am hoping things improve, I think it's more important to be unified, as a nation we are stronger together.
I am not a Trump supporter nor do I believe he is the one we need in the most sacred and important position for our nation. I do not want him to fail, more importantly--I want him to stop tweeting. Someone please make him stop, Kids are baited by tweets. Silly stuff like that is troublesome!
