We recently flew to Michigan overnight to attend a long-time friend’s son’s wedding.  The wedding was beautiful and a reflection of the love and affection everyone who attended had for both families.  Going to and from the airport and the venue from our hotel required a few Uber trips for us.

I always try to strike up a conversation with our car drivers, no matter where we are. And I find that they’re always happy to talk to me. I have realized, in doing so, how much I learn about local life from my conversations with cab drivers.

The driver who drove us from the airport to our hotel gave us a lot of information about Detroit. He was, clearly, very proud of being from Detroit. It was fascinating hearing information about Detroit that I would have never known. Another driver drove us back to our hotel from the wedding venue after the wedding. She was driving a car that was able to drive itself. My husband and I were both fascinated with the car, and she was happy to answer all of our questions, and show us what the car was capable of, throughout our thirty-minute drive back to the hotel.

I always appreciate hearing a little slice of life from cab drivers. Do you talk to them while in their car?
