This Week's Networking Question

This is an audience of people who network. That means you are out in the world every day meeting new people and forging new relationships.

But, we all know that the trick in networking is really in building that relationship. We make loads of contacts but how many can you convert to great resources. So, here is my question for you today.

When you make a new business contact, what is your secret to building a new relationship? Is there a particular type of follow up that you have found most useful? Any you have found to be particularly distasteful?

What works for you in growing your contacts?

Paying attention to the person, remembering what they like and need and delivering.

Learning about their personal interests is always fascinating. Distasteful is when someone automatically adds me to their newsletter without asking.

Sincere interest in another person. Fred and Sonia have that in spades.
I'm learning from their great example.

Having them describe their business and interests. Getting to know the person!

I prefer to follow no formula per seas different approaches work with different people and I try to make that determination. If a person is otherwise focused I will not compete/ engage that moment but perhaps come back another time. Engagement matters but the form can vary.

I'm bad. Generally, I meet someone when they follow up with me. I'm going to try to get better.
