What Group Are You?

I originally joined Facebook as a means of “spying” on my children’s activities, i.e. looking at all the pictures of them holding the infamous red cups. I then started enjoying it as a means of reconnecting with old friends and learned how to use it for networking. Currently, I am beginning to see another benefit of social media, as a means of gathering news and information.

I have recently chosen to belong to a number of Facebook groups. For instance, there are several groups for my town of Oceanside, a Moms group as well as an Oceanside group. If anything out of the ordinary is happening in my town, such as even a police car or ambulance, someone quickly posts it on one of these pages. If anyone has a question about local town news, i.e. what is the status of the construction of Costco, they post the question there and it is quickly answered.

A friend of mine recently recommended that I join Merrick Girls Weekday Recipes Group. I was hesitant to join given that I do not live in Merrick. But I found that it’s a far ranging group with about 10,000 members (certain Gotham members are also members) and I have gotten some incredible recipes and cooking tips from that group. My family is loving all of  the new recipes I have gotten.

And, of course, there’s the Gotham Facebook group. I am really enjoying social media. What Facebook groups do you belong to? Can I join?

I really like Facebook and am a member of a few groups, but it is the ability to express my opinions, posit my questions and post my pictures that I value most.

I enjoy the music related groups most but I belong to a variety. We even had one for the SI Gotham group but when Gotham joined FB we needed to rebrand that one.

I mostly belong to business related groups, its a great place to get your questions answered and answer others questions and just connect to folks from everywhere.

I recently joined the Dix Hills Moms group and reconnected with the all my old PTA buddies

The Facebook group phenomenon is really interesting. I have very recently joined a few (because you introduced me to the idea) but I a more of a lurker so far.
