Ties
Posted By : Benjamin Geizhals

Many, many years ago I visited a member of the Israeli Knesset in Jerusalem. As I walked through the halls of Israel’s legislature, I was struck by the lack of ties. Members were generally in shirts without ties. (Interesting in light of the recent news about dress codes in the U.S. Senate.)I asked the Member about the absence of ties and his respo

A Century gone by
Posted By : Crysti Farra

This past weekend we had the pleasure of hosting the birthday of the century, literally!  It was a ton of family from near and far as well as a smattering of great friends who gathered to honor an amazing woman, Stewart’s mom and my self proclaimed replacement mom. The comments of the party goers following the day warmed our hearts. I have said on

Social Media

I was wondering today about everyone’s social media platform of choice.  I was also wondering whether that choice aligns generationally.   For me, I am a Facebook and LinkedIn user, each for its own purpose.   I haven’t been hooked in Instagram, YouTube, TikTok or any of the others.  My kids say that shows my age.   What is your social media platfo

It's Friendship
Posted By : Rona Gura

I have been thinking about my friendships a lot lately. It’s probably because Nancy recently raised the topic of friendship at a Gotham Long Island meeting.    Admittedly, I have a lot of friends. But my thoughts have been centering on what makes certain friendships special to me.  I have friends that I have been close to for a long time, since hig

From Within

A friend of mine believes he has control over his kids lives who are in their late 20's. Furthermore, he wants control.   In reality, control is a fleeting illusion. It's like trying to wrangle a herd of cats.  While we may try to govern external circumstances, true mastery lies within. (a Buddhist joke comes to mind:)   We can't command the world

Binging on Suits
Posted By : Fred Klein

We have just finished our month long binge on the 134 episodes of the 2011-2019 law firm TV series Suits, which mostly appears on Netflix and, inexplicably, has its final season on Prime.   As mentioned in previous blogs, one of the compelling reasons to watch Suits is to witness Meghan Markle, who, for me, lit up the screen for 108 episodes over 7

Apple Sauce
Posted By : Benjamin Geizhals

Apple Sauce has a special place for us. For years, Flo and I have been making apple sauce. It is expected that we will bring a fresh batch to family dinners and we wouldn’t dare visit our grandchildren in Washington and Alexandria without containers for all. There is something special about our apple sauce. It’s never the same. The combinations of a

The Game and BBQ must go on (or some apples)

One of the things I most look forward to within Gotham is the annual picnic and softball game, most recently being held at Alley Pond Park in Queens. Its’s a great way to bring friends and family to meet up with Gotham, get some fresh air and have an informal meal together. It’s where my son can bond a bit and enjoy some NY time which he dearly mis

Sing a Song
Posted By : Nancy Schess

I was reminded the other day how often my family just breaks into song. We always have, and most often really ridiculous silly songs sometimes even made up – or, in the alternative a good old fashioned show tune.   I grew up on show tunes.  We were a big musical family (we still are).  I woke up every Saturday morning to my dad playing his favorite

Getting it Done
Posted By : Rona Gura

When you really need to get some work done and you are in a time crunch what do you do to get it done? Before Covid, my answer to that question would have been, that I would come into the office very early-before the office phones started ringing-and get it done.   Since Covid my answer is different. If I have a document that I need to write, for e

Could've wrote about about an anniversary yesterday but one might say it got "rained out" for real.  But I alway expected this week would cover another musical event. Marisa and her dad - this commentator - took in the Eagles' The Long Goodbye Tour at UBS last Wednesday eve.   The Eagles were "supported" by Steely Dan which I never saw in any of i

Time to go

When do you get a haircut?   Well, I do when my hair starts resembling a fuzzy poodle or a misplaced tumbleweed.   I would guess I go every 6-8 weeks. But if I want to rock the wild marketing guy look, I let it ride a bit longer.

"Love"
Posted By : Fred Klein

Love is defined as an intense feeling of deep affection.   The purpose of this blog is to register my disapproval of what seems to me is the present day watering down and usage of the word.  Unless memory fails me, Love was once only expressed in a very special sense in very special situations.  Now I hear the word bandied about in the most everyda
