Sleep deprivation
Posted By : Crysti Farra

As I post this blog, late with apologies, I realized that I am one day behind, thinking today was Tuesday.... My work life has always been hectic, and I feel fortunate to have this problem, but at times, it causes me to get behind schedule and stay very late in the office or even work from home into the wee hours.  That being said, this disruption

Paying it Forward

I carry a small card case that doubles as a wallet.  It comes in handy.   One day recently as I was busily departing my LIRR train, I couldn’t find the case.  I was doing the standard – check one last time for everything important – departure dance but couldn’t find it.   It was distinctly possible, I concluded, that the wallet was on my desk and s

Shoe Etiquette
Posted By : Rona Gura

How do you put on your shoes?   This became a topic of discussion after my husband watched me put on sneakers last week. I put on my right sock and then the right sneaker. I then proceeded to put on the left sock and then, the left sneaker.   I was told I was doing it wrong. That I should be putting both sneakers on first and, after I have both soc

Today culminates a special week for my clan.  It started with Shelly taking a ride on her new bike transported for the first time via a bike rack.  Then we learn of our son Jonathan's promotion at Guttmacher Institute to Principal Research Scientist, Modeling & Analytics. A few days later New York Governor Kathy Hochul announces an indefinitely

Transcendent

Music can transcend generations. I listen to a lot of different styles of music at my time at the wheel and often catch myself smiling when I connect with a piece of music that reminds me of certain places and moments.   Music's universal language bridges gaps that can pass down emotions, stories, and memories. All of us can find common ground in m

In recent blogs I have proudly featured my grandson, Shawn Atom, and his growth as a guitar playing rock n' roller.  This blog is an "Equal Time" venture in pride featuring his younger sister, Ruby Ella.  In the run up to Gotham's recently successful Battle of the Bands, Shawn intended to enter his band, but was stymied be his vocalist quitting.  F

3rd Annual Pizza Crawl Blog
Posted By : Robert Intelisano

Last Thursday, I had the honor and privilege of leading the Third annual “Gotham Pizza Crawl,” this time held in Forest Hills, Queens.  One of my favorite aspects of the crawls are that each one is unique, special and different! I’m going to share what I learned, give you a few pizza facts and then ask you two pizza questions, as this Crawl was a m

Guy on left has written 75 novels, 50 Short stories and has been a best selling author for more than 30 years. Guy on the right has written 2 books.   I've been reading L E Modesitt Jr's work since 1997 (and got Sharon into his work in the early 2000s).  What drew me to him, initially, was just the names of the books: The Magic Engineer (how

Unplugged
Posted By : Rona Gura

I was forcibly unplugged while in Europe last week.   My husband and I were in Lisbon. The converter we were using was clearly defective as my iPhone, my iPad and my husband’s iPad all blew. The iPad was even sparking when we tried to charge it.  Luckily, for us, my husband’s Android phone was running perfectly.   I had no alternative but to remain

A flat out change in plans

Shelly likes to ride -- a bike that is.  My lovely wife started with one of this bikes you dissemble and assemble which make for easy transport.  I would take her to different parks while I did my work remotely.  Through our friend Brian, she recently upgrade to a regular bike.  It required putting the back seats down until I ordered a removable bi

When I was a boy, Mickey Mantle was my favorite baseball player.  Truth be told he was my boyhood Idol and he wore #7 (as a Rookie he wore #6, but that's a story for another blog).  He was the Yankees "Key Man" (last 3 letters of his first name and first 3 letters of his surname). All these years later, I am still a die hard Yankee fan (short for Fa

TWA

A few weeks ago, at a joint meeting of the Bandit and Health and Longevity groups, I reported on upcoming events and June 4th cocktails at the TWA Hotel at Kennedy Airport. I described the iconic former TWA terminal and, as I looked around the table at my fellow Gothamites, commented that the visit would be nostalgic for some and history for others

Making the move from the City with its bright lights, noise, and crowds to a urban residential neighborhood where I can see the stars, hear the sounds of birds singing songs I’ve never heard before, was a wonderful opportunity for change.     Neither here nor there is better – they’re just different.    I still have parks that offer an opportunity

It seems fitting on Memorial Day when I am writing my blog to remember both my dad and my husband’s dad.   Much to my mother’s chagrin, my dad enlisted.  It was the tail end of the Korean War but he wanted to serve his country.  Mom wasn’t his wife yet but  they had pledged their lives to each other and off he went.   It is hard to imagine what it
