Holiday Letters
Posted By : Rona Gura

Last week, we received a holiday card and letter from our cousin. It was filled with news from their family from the past year.   I remember when we used to receive numerous holiday letters from friends and family. They all, generally, would recap the past year and shares what the families had been up to. These letters always made me smile. It mad

I'm Confused
Posted By : Rona Gura

Television is getting very confusing. First there was basic television, channels two through thirteen. Then basic cable came along which added several more channels. After that we got premium cable which added about eight hundred more channels (although I still can’t find anything to watch on cable) as well as pay per view movies and events.   Now

Oh F##k!!!
Posted By : Rona Gura

The other evening, while at a networking function, I told a story about a recent court appearance. Inadvertently, and for the first time ever, I blurted out the word “f##k,” while on the record. The word would have been perfect in context under any other circumstances but, clearly, inappropriate in court.    The conversation around the table w

Wearing White
Posted By : Rona Gura

My sister-in-law--whom I love-- and I were together last weekend. She was wearing a beautiful white sweater with a white vest. I had on a light grey sweater.    By the end of the evening, my grey sweater was stained in two places. My sister-in-law’s sweater, however, looked as fresh and clean as it did when she first walked into the room.

Express Shopping
Posted By : Rona Gura

On the way back to the office from court last week, I decided to do a quick stop at the grocery store. I needed two items for home and wanted to multitask by also picking up something for lunch. While the store was crowded, I thought I could just get on the Express Line with my three items and be out of the store within minutes. I was wrong.

Following Doctor's Orders
Posted By : Rona Gura

I am a bad patient. I am emphatic about having my annual check ups and mammogram. But, beyond those, I rarely listen to my doctor’s recommendations. I think it’s time to change my ways.   On Thursday, I had a medical procedure on my leg which required several stitches. As the procedure was a bit more complicated than the doctor had anticipated

My Freak Flag is Waving Proudly
Posted By : Rona Gura

Fred has an expression that he often uses that I love, “Let your freak flag fly.” To me, it means that we should freely embrace our individuality.   I have mentioned, in prior blogs, that I enjoy science fiction. Recently, I was in Disney and was able to go The Star Wars exhibit, The Galaxy’s Edge. We were also lucky enough to get on the premi

It's About Love and Foregiveness
Posted By : Rona Gura

This week I have been thinking a lot about, and discussing, trust and forgiveness. My good friend’s significant other, whom she has been with for a very long time, did something that violated her trust (no he did not cheat on her). Since then he has shown genuine remorse and significant introspection about the nature of his actions and why they w

Zzzzzzzz
Posted By : Rona Gura

Sleep was the topic of discussion this morning in my Weight Watchers meeting. I was surprised to learn about the importance of sleep with respect to weight loss. But the discussion went way beyond that. We discussed the importance of a good night’s sleep for stress relief as well as basic productivity.     I was hardly the only one in the meeti

What's On Your DVR?
Posted By : Rona Gura

My husband and I are finding ourselves with a shortage of good television to watch. We are still mourning the loss of Game of Thrones. We generally DVR the programs we want to watch and, lately, the DVR is relatively empty.     We both look to television to help us, momentarily, forget the tension in our lives and destress. I enjoy programs li

Waking Up
Posted By : Rona Gura

There are two types of people in this world, those that jump out of bed when the alarm goes off and those that hit the snooze button. I am a snoozer. I hardly ever get up when the alarm goes off. I hit the snooze button at least once, or twice, every day. In fact, I generally set my alarm earlier than I need to get up, anticipating that I will h

Living With Costco
Posted By : Rona Gura

A little over a year ago I wrote a blog about the conflict in my town concerning the opening of Costco. Approximately eighteen months later, all the struggles have quieted down and Costco has become a way of life.     We find ourselves going to Costco about once a week. I have, essentially, stopped making roasted chicken or homemade chicken s

Saying Good-bye
Posted By : Rona Gura

How good are you at saying good-bye?     This week my stepson moved out of our house and into an apartment in Manhattan. He’s starting work in two weeks in a large law firm in the city so he wanted to move in before work began. This is all good. We are incredibly proud of his hard work in law school that culminated in him being hired as a firs

Where Oh Where Is This Blog Going?
Posted By : Rona Gura

I often find it interesting as to where the comments on my blog will take the discussion. Recently, the comments to a blog I wrote about fast food centered on the merits of coffee in the morning. While the topics may be somewhat related, it is not the direction I expected the discussion to go.     Nancy recently wrote a blog attesting to her a

Tasting The Experience
Posted By : Rona Gura

Anyone who knows me knows that, my fear of flying notwithstanding, I love to travel. I love to experience everything different countries have to offer, the sights, sounds, and tastes. I believe that a crucial part of the experience is tasting the local cuisine.     As those of you who are friends with me on Facebook know, I spent last week i
