Prime Day 2023
Posted By : Nancy Schess

What did you think of Prime Day this year?  Are you an Amazon shopper and did you indulge?   I completely passed this year, and I have to admit I am a bit of an Amazon fan.  The convenience is hard to beat.  But, the Prime Day hype just didn’t call me this year.   Apparently I was in the minority as it seems this Prime Day 2023 was Amazon’s most su

Did You Miss Me?
Posted By : Nancy Schess

Last week’s blog was a conundrum – an absent conundrum.  The July 4 holiday sent my entire calendar out of whack.  By Tuesday evening when I realized I was off by an entire day, it was too late.   So, my blog spot sat quiet, empty.    I thought about hopping on for a quick blog late Tuesday night but decide quiet was better.   A belated Happy 4th

Print it Out -- Or Not
Posted By : Nancy Schess

I very much appreciate technology.    These days I can carry around – and find – any document I have ever created.  OK, maybe that is an exaggeration, but you get my point.  The convenience, completeness and efficiency is second to none.   But, when it comes to actually studying a document – often the cornerstone of my workday – I prefer a hard cop

Wheels
Posted By : Nancy Schess

In 1985, I bought my first car – a white Oldsmobile Omega.  The car was a hand-me-down.  It had been my dad’s and he was buying a new one.  Literally, a new Omega.  I had just moved home after law school and it seemed a good idea to have wheels.  I remember the car made funny noises.   This week, my son is buying his first car – a 2023 Honda Accord

Time for a Nap
Posted By : Nancy Schess

I have always been a fan of a good nap.  In fact, I would be a proponent of communal napping spaces that could be rented or even borrowed for short times around the city.   This season is my favorite napping time.  A good back, a tall iced tea (or iced coffee), outside in the sun in a comfortable chair.  I will be napping pretty quickly I admit.

My iPhone is Watching
Posted By : Nancy Schess

It’s a little creepy.  My iPhone tells me, how far I walked, how long I slept, how many hours I spent on the iPhone, and then compares my usage to other weeks.  Once that data is in that little device, I know that I am not the only one to know.   I am convinced that Facebook hears me talking.  Sometimes I think it hears me thinking.  I may not even

Barbecue, Sunshine and Service
Posted By : Nancy Schess

I hope you all enjoyed the long Memorial Day weekend and took advantage of sunshine and the start of summer.   I also hope you had a minute to stop and think about someone in your world who served, or perhaps is currently serving, our country.  For those of you who remember Debbie Lindner (who was with Gotham as our Director for many years), she ne

Graduation Season
Posted By : Nancy Schess

Pomp and Circumstance just never gets old.   The excitement just continues to grow as you try to find your graduate in a sea of caps and gowns, and the music crescendos right along with.   Truth be told, from Eric’s graduation last year I have a string of pictures of young men in caps and gowns who I thought were my son – but were not.  Eventually,

Singing And Dancing

That is how I spent Friday night – with friends after a good meal.   Last week, Laurel (Scarr-Konel for those you who might now know) invited us to a concert – Kool & The Gang, with opening acts by The Spinners and Average White Band.  We had no plans that night.  Who will agree with my that sometimes spontaneity is best?   I haven’t been to We

The Puppy Connection
Posted By : Nancy Schess

Do you have a dog? I don’t – but I am completely obsessed with my grand puppy, Hudson Schess.  I learned last week that we share a last name, well at least for day care, and I am even his emergency contact.   Bill and I were on our way back from a fun afternoon at the Tanger Outlets in Deer Park (well, fun for me – I’m not sure how much for Bill) w

A Thirteen Year Old Hero
Posted By : Nancy Schess

On a school bus in Michigan, a 13 year old student was engrossed in conversation with his friends when he noticed the bus driver was not feeling well.   In a split second, this young student hopped into action and when the bus driver passed out at the wheel, reached in to put his foot on the brake and grabbed the steering wheel.    A crisis averted

My Day in Service
Posted By : Nancy Schess

Jury duty that is.  Last week it was time to fulfill that dreaded jury duty requirement.  I had taken advantage of putting it off once but my time was up.  I had reluctantly cleared my calendar for the week and planned to be able to work remotely as much as possible.   The system actually worked really well and with greater efficiency than frankly

Saying Goodbye
Posted By : Nancy Schess

I know this is going to sound a little crazy – but I attended the nicest funeral yesterday.    My cousin’s mom passed a few days ago at the age of 91.  She lived a full life, filled with energy and absolute devotion to her husband and family.   And then there were the stories, hilarious stories, right until the day she died.      The funeral servi

A Little Advice

Many of us have been at this for a long time.  Many of us are just getting started.   Many of us who have been at this for a long time, are really just getting started or perhaps getting started with something new.   I am talking about business development, of course.   Across the span of our professions, we have all learned some tips, regardless o

Dreaming of a Day Off
Posted By : Nancy Schess

It has been very busy in my world and that is not a complaint.   But, I did observe recently that I have not had a full on day off in a long time.  Truth be told, I can’t really remember when that last day was.   And so, here comes the daydreaming.  These days, what would that day look like?    It could be a day of watching movies in pajamas and sl
