This Week's Networking Question
Posted By : Nancy Schess

This is an audience of people who network. That means you are out in the world every day meeting new people and forging new relationships. But, we all know that the trick in networking is really in building that relationship. We make loads of contacts but how many can you convert to great resources. So, here is my question for you today. Wh

Kindness
Posted By : Nancy Schess

“In a World Where You Can Be Anything, Be Kind” I really like this quote. OK, I admit it showed up on my Facebook feed, but I still really like it. Kindness doesn’t always show itself in our world. Business people negotiating hard on opposite sides, litigants in a bitter dispute, even just a disagreement amongst friends. But, being kind is

A Lazy Day
Posted By : Nancy Schess

I am just about ready for a lazy day. You know – the kind of day that has no errands, no work and no plan. No cleaning, no laundry, no chauffeuring, no supermarkets, no gym. My "no" list could go on and on. In my world a lazy day means a good book on my Kindle and a very cold glass of Moscato. If I am really pushing it, my lazy day also includes

Travel Abroad

Last spring my daughter spent a week in Israel to start her international traveling. Last summer she spent a month in India working with an eye care foundation. In the winter she went back to Israel to study. This summer, she will be spending eight weeks doing research with the Queensland Mental Health Research Center in Brisbane Australia. Sh

Spring Forward
Posted By : Nancy Schess

OK, but I’m still sleepy! I know that hour adds sunlight at the end of the day. I know that hour means summertime is just around the corner. I know that hour means I am one step closer to both of my children being home together at least for a little while. But, really, adjusting to the time change means waiting to enjoy all of those positi

Generational Observations
Posted By : Nancy Schess

I very distinctly remember opening my first bank account.   I was probably ten years old. It came with a small, crisp book that recorded in stacked type my first ten dollar deposit. I was so excited and held that passbook proudly. Each time I visited the bank with another deposit, I actively watched my deposits grow. My passbook became historic

Did You Know?
Posted By : Nancy Schess

I did not – did you? Two weeks ago I had the privilege of moderating a panel discussion at the 8th Annual Yale Women’s Leadership Conference. (This was quite the proud mama moment since my daughter was part of the organizing team for this conference – but I digress). My panel was called “21st Century Women in Law and Government” and consist

Paying It Forward
Posted By : Nancy Schess

I have written on this topic before but I like it. I had dinner with a good friend last Friday night. We were catching up on her recent family vacation. The vacation, a cruise through the Caribbean, was for a special occasion and had been long in planning with much family anticipation. One particular excursion was to be the highlight of t

Those Commercials
Posted By : Nancy Schess

I can’t comment on the Super Bowl. Really, I can’t. I don’t know enough about the game. But let’s talk about those commercials. There were a few this year that I thought were particularly creative. · The Doritos Ad – Just silly and funny. That baby sure did like those Doritos. · PuppyMonkeyBaby – I didn’t get it. But I laughed. So, I suppo

That's Not My Dog!

I heard the following story. As the sun came up last Sunday, nearly three feet of snow blanketed the development. Cars up and down the block needed to be found and uncovered. An elderly couple’s neighbors decided to take on the job of uncovering the couple’s cars. This good deed had become somewhat of a tradition in the development over the l

Are You A Snoozer?
Posted By : Nancy Schess

Everyone in my family is a fan, perhaps too big a fan, of the snooze button. Perhaps it is inherited. The problem makes me very aware of potential technological solutions. I saw an alarm clock advertised that was kind of like that toy you bought for your kids when they were first becoming tactile – the one where they had to fit the pieces into

Networking 101
Posted By : Nancy Schess

I was talking to a colleague the other day about my entrance into the world of networking many years ago. The theme of our conversation was that no one had taught either of us how. We just jumped in and figured out how to make it work. Of course, I was lucky to have the master networker as my mentor (you all know who I am talking about!) but not ev

It's That Time Again
Posted By : Nancy Schess

I believe in New Year’s resolutions and there are always themes. For example, losing that 10 pounds is always right up there on my list. So is putting my technology away when it should be away. OK, so maybe I am not always successful in keeping my resolutions. Notwithstanding my degree of success, I engage in the process anyway. It’s more like

Goodbye to 2015
Posted By : Nancy Schess

It is hard to believe that this is my last blog for 2015. This year really flew by. Does anyone else find that as you get older the years go more quickly? When I was young, I remember vividly how September felt. At the beginning of each school year it was nearly impossible to imagine that June was just around the corner. It always was. As ti

One Word
Posted By : Nancy Schess

I saw a news report recently about an artist whose business is making bracelets. Each bracelet consists of colored string tied to a circle upon which a single word is imprinted. You choose the word and the artist imprints it onto the bracelet. Turns out it isn’t easy to pick one word that has significance, important enough to look at every day.
