Three
Posted By : Fred Klein

Three is my lucky number.   They say things happen in threes and in that regard this has been a very fortunate year for me: 1) I was honored by Vincent Russo's Theresa Foundation this Spring, 2) designated as the Friars Club Friar of the Year soon thereafter and 3) I pitched Gotham's Batmen softball team to its first Championship this Summer (It's

It's Great to be Young and a Batman!
Posted By : Fred Klein

Please read my last week's blog Pregame Anxiety as prelude to this.  In a few words, I wrote I was worried about my softball Playoff performance and that of our Gotham Batmen team. Well, we passed every test and won every playoff game on the road to the Batmen's first League Championship and I got to scream, at the end of each game, at the top of

Pregame Anxiety
Posted By : Fred Klein

I am at the field over an hour early (so I won't be late) and I am alone with my nervous anxiety and demons. I have already stretched and I am waiting.  Am I at the right field?  Why is no one else here? Will I be able to perform up to my expectations?  Will I be able to control my pitches and hit with authority?  Will I manage the game well?  Will

My Fitness Age
Posted By : Fred Klein

Following up on last Friday's Three Stages of Life blog, I was pleased to learn that, by one standard of measurement, all my hard work seems to have paid off. I was reading last week's Science Times and there was an article about Senior Olympians who had been tested for their "fitness age".  The article referenced a web site: worldfitnesslevel.org.

The Three Stages of Life
Posted By : Fred Klein

Over my many years I have learned that there are three stages in life: Youth, Middle Age and "You Look Good!"I'm not saying that I look good, but I have survived the first two stages and work hard every day living right to earn the third accolade. If anyone is interested in the details feel free to let me know. :)

Knickerbockers

The New York Knicks are owned by the Dolan family (owners of Cablevision and Long Island's Newsday).  The family is not very popular for many reasons-not the least of which was the Knicks horrid 17 win past season.  I have been a season ticket holder since far better times in the 70's and am partnering with Gothamite Phil Smallman on my 4 (good) se

Father's Day

Thank you "Hard Hitting" Don Bernstein for relinquishing your prime time Sunday spot, but the following just bubbled up and would not wiait until Friday. I have heard that Mother's and Father's Days are "Hallmark Holidays", but in fact they were initiated at the start of the 20th Century for good non commercial reasons. Of course, Mother's Day came

Dog Dogma

I spied the above photo recently on Facebook. It rang true. What could be better than a picture of an Oracle dispensing his hard earned wisdom: I'm suspicious of people who don't like dogs, but I trust a dog when it doesn't like a person. I am a reformed dog hater. My reformation occurred upon the advent two years ago of our wonderful Schnoodle Cha

Email

I thrive on the email. I love it!   I find it so instantaneous and available that I just can't resist it. In that respect I'm fortunate that my friends are responsive and equally hooked. I can't imagine how I/we ever existed before email and I'm sure that Gotham, which is paperless, would be nonexistent without the advent of email at our onset 18

Aches and Pains

I am a lifetime athlete: who played Soccer in college, finished 33 (26.2 mile marathons), ran 3000 miles per year for over a decade, ran at least 2 miles for 620 straight days, completed triathlons, competed in countless road races, survived three 24 Hour Relay races, swam 170 straight days, recently planked for 10 minutes and continue to pitch for

Are you on Facebook?  If not, in my opinion, you should be. Why?  Because it is a great connectivity tool. We talk at meetings about the need to have one on one meetings and participation in Gotham committees and events, in addition to attendance at regular meetings, inorder to maximize the networking experience. However, in my opinion, the secret

Drive
Posted By : Fred Klein

Something that can make a defining difference in one's life is drive. Drive might not make one happy, but it helps make one be the best that they can be and enhances the prospect of success (and happiness). I didn't have much drive when I was coming up and there were a number of disappointments and failures along the way. At some point, however, I'
